Colleague speaks: Richard van Dijk
A 30-year career driven by craftsmanship and enjoyment
If there is one colleague who embodies the DNA of Koeweit Oliehandel, it is Richard van Dijk. He has been a familiar face within our company since 1989. What started as a temporary job driving a trailer grew into an impressive career as a driver, depot employee, and ultimately manager.
Richard officially retired in 2019, but he can still be found at our location every week. His knowledge, dedication, and enthusiasm make him an indispensable link—even now.
Passion for technology and quality
What appeals to Richard most in his work? The laboratory. “The variety, the freedom, the technical challenges—I really enjoy that,” he says. His passion for lab work and process improvement has led to important contributions, including the construction of our current hall and laboratory.
Together with colleagues, he selected the right equipment, took courses, and tested new techniques—all to raise the quality of our waste processing to a higher level. This included analyzing and pre-processing waste oil, checking incoming brake fluid or testing coolant in terms of composition and contamination.
Trust, freedom, and job satisfaction
What does Richard still appreciate so much about Koeweit Oliehandel after all these years? “The freedom and trust. You know what you have to do, without anyone constantly looking over your shoulder. That gives you responsibility and job satisfaction.”
His story shows how craftsmanship, commitment, and long-term employment contribute to the strength of our company. We are proud of people like Richard, who make a difference with their experience and dedication—for colleagues, customers, and the environment.
